Anonymous sent: Do Korean believe in the tooth fairy and Easter bunnies and all that like here in western? Or is not that common there? Or do they have their own kinda fictional characters?

Fantasy figures that exist for kids to believe in when they’re younger like Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Easter bunny, etc., don’t really exist in Korea. Characters like Santa Claus are still known, but it exists as a symbol rather than something to believe as reality. Belief in superstitions is much more common than belief in the existence of fictional characters.

LOL YESSSSSSSSS

Anonymous sent: about the thing with same last names; how do koreans deal with this though, I mean a hell of a lot of them have the same last names don't they? i mean chances of two people who love each other having the same last name aren't really that little right?

You’re right, and that’s where reality and taboo butt heads a little. I’d say around 50% of Korea’s population fall under the last names Kim, Lee, Choi, Park, and Jeong, which could put a limit on your “acceptable” dating/marriage possibilities if you have one of those last names. Laws that prohibited marriage among people with the same last name were probably originally put in place to prevent birth defects from incest, but even if they’re gone now and even if same last names don’t necessarily indicate incest, mindsets from very old cultural taboos and traditions from Confucianism are hard to eradicate completely.

Just a note: Korean laws that banned marriage among people with the same last name and same ancestral clan were lifted quite recently in 1998

Anonymous sent: I heard in Korea (correct me if I'm wrong) that when you marry, the women keep still keep their last name? Is that very common. Also when you have kids.. do they take the husbands last name?

Yes, women in Korea traditionally all keep their maiden names after they marry, and the kids that they have take the surname of the father. There are very few exceptions to that, and usually the married woman only adopts the surname of her husband if they move to an English speaking country.

Anonymous sent: Just curious. I know some care and some don't but in the Korean culture can people of the same last name date/marry? Does it matter or is it looked at as a taboo?

Dating or marrying someone with the same last name as you is definitely taboo and generally frowned upon. It becomes an even bigger issue if you have the same last name and come from the same clan lineage

Anonymous sent: its actually croque monsieur

It’s actually not though lol. Croque monsieur is a French grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Croque madame is a croque monsieur topped with a fried or poached egg.

Anonymous sent: do you know if GD/YG ever plan to sell GIYONGCHY?

They definitely won’t ever sell any GIYONGCHY accessories. They’d run into some serious copyright infringement issues with Givenchy

Anonymous sent: you smoke?

Cigarettes, no. Hookah, yes.

Anonymous sent: is GIYONGCHY sold anywhere? or is it only exclusive to gd and celebs who know him?

All of GD’s “GIYONGCHY” accessories are custom made, so you’re not going to be able to find the same accessories as he has, but there are some fanmade “GIYONGCHY” goods that you can usually find around tumblr and eBay

Anonymous sent: sexy :)

Anonymous sent: Hello! I looked up Coffee House Heyri and saw a picture of patbingsoo in a watermelon! O__O Someone said that they sell them during summer, would they be selling them now? Thank you so much! ^-^

I haven’t been there in a few months, so I’m not sure D: I would assume that they start selling them in June, but you can always call and ask to make sure!

Anonymous sent: i find u saying "so chinky" kind of offensive.

I think it’s become a word that has been deemed okay for just Asians to use amongst themselves, similar to the n-word, and it’s become a part of my vocabulary. I probably should stop using it less. I do realize it has offensive origins, so if I offended you, I’m sorry

Anonymous sent: whens your birthday sara? what would you do if someone from tumblr sent you a letter and a gift?

It’s on March 7, so it’s already past, but I’d absolutely love a letter and a gift from someone on tumblr! I actually have received things in the mail from people I’ve befriended through tumblr and twitter, and each time I just get really really happy ^_^

Anonymous sent: I don't know about you looking like Yoo in na but you definitley are pretty, especially in the photo you just put up! ^^ YOU LOOK SO FREAKING CUTE :3 I don't get why you think you're not and always go "oh but it's because I take it from some flattering angles blablablah"

Well, I don’t think I’m hideous, but I’m still uncomfortable with the idea of posting a photo that’s actually an accurate representation of what I look like in real life, so I think it’s true that a lot of you do think I’m better looking than I actually am, since I do post photos with more flattering angles and lighting

Anonymous sent: NO MATTER HOW MANY DIFFERENT WAYS I VIEW YOUR PHOTOS, YOU STILL LOOK LIKE YOO IN NA TO ME OMG

you’re just the same anon coming back to tell me this aren’t you lmao. okay MAYBE I have a VERY VERY slight resemblance to her to some people in some of my super flattering pictures, but honestly in reality I’m too chinky and my cheeks are too chubs to look like Yoo In Na cries

whenever you come back to my inbox to tell me this I feel like I’m insulting Yoo In Na and I’m like
